Lace Exhibit

Until the early 20th century, lace was more valuable than gold. This highly prized material played an important part in the dress and style of Gilded Age women. The Flagler Museum’s lace collection belonged to Jean Flagler Matthews and is exhibited in five cases, each devoted to a specific type of lace. Pull-out drawers contain additional samples from the collection, while photographs, paintings, and artifacts interpret the importance of lace throughout history.
